                                Constance Seugling

Born in Massachusetts,I spent my youth in New York State. After receiving a BA in Art and teaching certificate, from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, I relocated to New Jersey where I have resided since. I have 2 adult sons, a granddaughter, and live with my husband in Cedar Grove, NJ.

My full time job ended in January 2018, and since then I have devoted my time to my art and avocation. All of my adult life I have taught art in many venues which include Adult Continuing Education, K-12 public school art and for the last 17 years as an instructor of senior adults encouraging and motivating those who often had little experience in art.  I am currently working at Crane's Mill in West Caldwell, NJ with a group of accomplished as well as beginning artists.

A turning point in my artistic career was the 5 years of study with sculptors Dante deFlorio and Helene Massey-Hemmens. These years saw a maturing of my artistic talent and took my work in a new direction. In recent years, like all artists who must change and grow, I began working in Mixed media/ collage and watercolor. The later under Maryann Burton.

Most of my sculpture and collage work has been strongly influenced by my love of animals and my concern for social justice and the endangered environment. They also display a purely whimsical nature. As an artist I perceive the internal spirit of my work as a development of the way my life has unfolded. The quote by Emile Zola "When you ask me what I came to do in this world, as an artist I will answer you. I came to live out loud" , speaks volumes to the incredible manner in which an artist can influence and be influenced by his world. The spirit and joy in all of my work is there because of what and who I am
